had an interview in 4 days and practicing alone in my room felt pointless
got a callback for a backend role on monday. interview scheduled for friday. i had four days to prepare and every time i tried rehearsing answers out loud by myself, i'd freeze or ramble.
the problem wasn't that i didn't know my stuff — i've been coding for three years, decent projects, solid resume. but the second i imagined someone across the table asking "walk me through a time you disagreed with a teammate," my brain would either go blank or i'd word-vomit for two minutes straight.
talking to my reflection felt ridiculous. recording myself on my phone and watching it back made me cringe so hard i'd just delete it. i needed something that felt more like the actual pressure of a real conversation.
ended up finding this tool called nxtinterview that basically runs mock interviews with you — asks questions based on your resume, lets you answer out loud, gives feedback on what you said. not perfect, but it was the first time practicing didn't feel like i was just talking to a wall.
ran through maybe 6-7 mock sessions over those four days. by thursday night i wasn't fumbling on behavioral questions anymore and had my project explanations down to under 90 seconds each.
interview friday went way smoother than i expected. didn't nail every question but i also didn't blank on anything. got the offer yesterday.
if you're in that same spot where you know you need reps but solo practice feels useless, might be worth trying. i'm not affiliated with them or anything, just actually helped me not look like a deer in headlights.
you can check it out at nxtinterview.com if you want. full disclosure: just a user, not connected to the company.
